How to choose the appropriate size for your dog's kennel?

The core of selecting the size of a pet kennel is to "allow the dog to freely stretch and rest comfortably". A size that is too small can cause the dog to feel cramped and uncomfortable, while a size that is too large can reduce the sense of security. It is necessary to make a comprehensive judgment based on the dog's body size, age, and sleep habits, and follow the principle of "measurement+reserved space".

Firstly, accurately measure the key dimensions of a dog: body length (the straight-line distance from the dog's nose tip to the buttocks), shoulder height (the distance from the highest point of the shoulder to the ground), and sleep width (the maximum width of the dog's body when lying on its side). Basic size recommendations: The length of the dog kennel should be ≥ the dog's body length+10-15 cm, the width should be ≥ the dog's sleeping width+5-10 cm, and the height should be ≥ 1/2 of the dog's shoulder height (for closed dog kennels, it is necessary to ensure that the dog looks up and does not bump into the head).

The size reference for different types of dog breeds: small dogs (such as Chihuahua and Teddy) usually have a body length of 20-30cm. It is recommended to choose a dog bed with a length of 40-50cm and a width of 30-40cm; Medium sized dogs (such as corgi, Shibuya), 40-60cm in length, it is recommended to choose a kennel with a length of 60-80cm and a width of 50-60cm; Large dogs (such as Golden Retrievers and Huskies) have a body length of 70-100cm. It is recommended to choose a dog kennel with a length of 90-120cm and a width of 70-90cm.

Special circumstances require size adjustment: Firstly, puppies need to consider their growth space. It is recommended to choose a kennel that is 20cm longer than their current body length, or choose a style with adjustable size to avoid frequent replacement; Secondly, for elderly dogs and dogs with poor joints, it is recommended to choose a slightly spacious kennel for easy getting up and turning, and to pair it with a soft mattress; Thirdly, for dogs who like to curl up and sleep, the width can be appropriately reduced (with a reserved 5cm) to enhance their sense of security; Dogs that like to stretch and sleep should increase their length appropriately (reserve 15-20cm).

In addition, when selecting, the dog can be allowed to lie down on site (if conditions permit) to observe whether the dog can stretch freely. If the dog can easily turn around, lie on its side without crowding, and its head can be naturally placed on the edge after entering the kennel, it is the appropriate size.
